In preparation for the Hangout on Air discussion on Wednesday 23rd May 20:00 – 21:00 BST – I have made a first screencast about the basics of how to create and navigate Google Hangouts on Air. This will be the first of three resources in a free pack of different media to deal with building an “emergent” CPD expertise network for the 21st Century in the UK called UKcpd4change. Get involved!
I invite you to build a searchable platform, a chain of CPD seminars based around action research and good management and expertise in schools. This will be a reflective, formative resource and an active counter to Ofsted. Instead of fear I invite you to bring your ideas to a supportive network of good practice for SLT, HOD and hard working and imaginative teachers in an open and creatively reflective environment.
The idea is to showcase what works and why in local contexts and see if there is an underlying pattern that everyone can learn from. Each school is different and reflects different communities- what are those contexts and narratives. What works and why?
We will have a number of guest speakers and seminars based on the outcomes of these initial experiments.
So, to begin with, you need to know how to create your own Google Hangouts on Air; what equipment to buy and how to orchestrate a GHOA session. Then we can all take it from there in terms of strategy and events. We fully intend for this to be as transparent and democratic as possible with people creating their own content locally and “chaining expertise” to amplify good practice.
If you aren’t satisfied with your job in education then do something about it. Have a discussion, hold a seminar or talk around what works for you and at what level. More guidance and resources will emerge on this site in the next couple of weeks and will then be ported to a central platform to share what has been learned and how we can move things forward in this area.
See the screencast below and then fill in the form mentioned here for Wednesday 23rd May 2012 20:00 – 21:00 BST to take part. And if you don’t fancy taking part then keep an eye on my Google + Profile > Leon Cych, on Wednesday, to see the live session.
